With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel L. Spears, on January 12, 2025. Born on January 4, 1966, to the late Richard and Joan (nee Felthouse) Spears, he graced this world for 59 wonderful years.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Devon A. Vestring; Loving father of Danny (Mindy) Spears, Katie (Ethan) Barnes, and Sam Spears; Cherished grandfather; Dear brother of Debbie (the late Tom) Matthews, Clifford Spears, Rick (Devena) Spears, Dave (Patsy) Spears, Mary (Steve) Dufek, and Ray (Bridget) Spears. Dan is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Dan served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal. His commitment to service and bravery instilled a profound sense of pride that he carried throughout his life. As a veteran, he exemplified the values of courage and integrity that so many admire.
Dan devoted 26 years of his life coaching basketball, football, baseball, and girls softball at Madeira City Schools and St. Gertrude. Through his commitment to coaching, he not only inspired young athletes to reach their potential but also instilled values of teamwork and perseverance that they will carry forever.
Beyond sports, Dan cherished the time spent making memories with his wife and his children. He was a devoted family man who understood the importance of laughter and joy, always finding ways to bring a smile to the faces around him. Known as a prankster, Dan's lighthearted spirit and laid-back nature could light up any room.
A gifted storyteller, Daniel had an extraordinary talent for crafting songs on the fly, often serenading friends and family with his unique sense of humor. He had an unfaltering love for animals and nature, often spending his free time fishing and exploring the outdoors in search of snakes. In addition, he enjoyed writing poetry, using words to express his deep appreciation for life and the world around him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home - 741 Center St, Milford, OH 45150. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. (Link below)
