Daniel Livingston Stallings, Jr, 69, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home, surrounded by friends and family. He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Livingston Stallings, mother, Margaret Salmon Collins and sister, Carolyn Stallings Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Tillottson Stallings; son, Daniel Livingston Stallings, III (“Chip�); daughter, Holli Stallings Quinn and husband Jeffrey Quinn, Jr.; step-son, Cannon Wade Forrest; step-mother, Evelyn Bell; brother, Joseph H. Stallings; sister, Sandra S. Mills; grandsons, Jeffrey Scott Quinn III (“Trey�) and Samuel Stallings Quinn; and a host of extended family members and special friends. Dan was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 4th 1941. He moved to New Bern as a young boy and graduated from New Bern High School in 1959 and Duke University in 1963. He was a Naval Supply Officer from 1964 to 1967. After his service in the Navy, Dan went to work for his father, D. Livingston Stallings’s insurance agency. After his father’s death in 1978, he took over Stallings Insurance Services. He continued his career in insurance and at the time of his passing, was an owner of the successor agency of SIA –Stallings Insurance Group. Over the course of his career, he was heavily involved in many civic organizations such as The New Bern Civitan Club, New Bern Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce and the Craven County Committee of 100. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and was an adored friend of many. He was known by most for his positive, optimistic outlook on life. Dan was first and foremost a family man but also enjoyed golfing, spending time at the beach and watching Tarheel basketball and football. He was dearly loved and will be missed by many. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Pollock-Best Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Cobb officiating. He will then be laid to rest at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
