POSTED AS A COURTESY TO THE FAMILY
Daniel "Steve" Standifer, of Grover Beach, California, passed away suddenly on September 15, 2025, at the age of 56. He was born in 1969 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Steve was a devoted husband, loving father, beloved son and brother, and a cherished friend to many. He was employed at California Polytechnic State University on the central coast of California, where his dedication and hard work touched many lives. He loved his time mentoring students and was proud to watch them grow and prepare to pursue their passions.
A man of many talents, Steve could do anything he set his mind to and never backed down from a challenge. He was an award-winning photographer whose love of seeing the world through a lens was evident in his work, with one of his photos gracing the cover of an annual edition of Camp California Magazine. He enjoyed playing guitar, observing the amazing variety of birds in his yard, sitting on his patio watching the waves roll in on the Pacific coast, and, most recently, learning to surf.
An avid traveler and outdoor enthusiast, Steve believed life was an adventure meant to be embraced. He and his wife, Angela, traveled the world together with curiosity and wonder, making friends in countries near and far. He loved learning new things, was a tech guru, loved science, and listened to many hours of Star Talk and other podcasts that fed his intellectual curiosity. His wise advice, unwavering devotion to his family, and his remarkable sense of humor will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Angela; his children, whom he was incredibly proud of: Lauren Drescher (Brent), Harlea Keller (Bill), Kathleen Hart, Corbin Fruchey (Elizabeth); and his granddaughter, Scarlett. He is also survived by his parents, Laverne Inge (Bob) and Jim Standifer; his sister, Leslie Addison; his brother, Cade Standifer (Cherise); his cousins, Montie Nickels and Austin Hale; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life with light refreshments will be held on October 17, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Little Old Little New Venue, 1354 N. Chicago Ave.,
Portales, NM 88130. In keeping with Steve's wishes, this will be a true celebration of his life, filled with stories, fellowship, and remembrance, but without prayer or religious service. Steve asked that those who would like to pray for him do so in their own time and place. His family lovingly asks all who attend to honor this request.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Steve's memory to consider planting a tree or making a donation to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home to support their important work. Donations can be made online at gift.idonate.com/new-mexico-baptist-childrens-home/NMBCHGiveHope. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
Steve's life was full of love, laughter, and adventure, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
