Daniel Brett Stryker, known affectionately as Dan to his friends and family, passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 76, in Pulteney, New York. Born on December 9, 1947, in Urbana, New York, he was a man of great strength and character, whose presence brought light and laughter to those around him. Dan's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, kindness, and dedication.
Dan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he exhibited immense courage and resilience during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. His military service was a significant part of his life and shaped the person he became. After returning home, Dan spent his career as a reliable truck driver and an all-around handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Despite the challenges he faced, including his battle with respiratory failure, lung cancer, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Dan's spirit remained unbroken. His innate ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, like planting a garden or enjoying the great outdoors, was an inspiration to all. Dan's love for his animals was pure and heartwarming, a reflection of his generous and loving nature.
Those who knew Dan will remember him as a man with a great sense of humor and an even greater heart. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with his jokes and laughter, making everyone feel at home. His generosity knew no bounds, and he often put the needs of others before his own, a true testament to his character.
Dan's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Andrea Stryker, and his son, Kyle Marshall Stryker, both of the home. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Jackson, and his adopted children, Don, Steven, Ali, Jo, along with his cherished granddaughter, Emylie. Born to Harlo G. Stryker and Delores M. Bates, Dan was the 12th of 13 children, each of whom added a unique thread to the rich tapestry of his life.
The memory of Daniel Brett Stryker will be held dear in the hearts of his family and friends. He embodied the true essence of what it means to be loving, funny, and generous. His spirit, imbued with warmth and kindness, will continue to guide and comfort those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Dan, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with unwavering love, boundless generosity, and laughter that could echo through the hearts of many. Though he may be gone from our sight, the impact of his life will resonate for generations to come.
Daniel Brett Stryker's journey through life was remarkable, not for the trials he faced, but for the grace with which he faced them. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will forever be a beacon of love and hope to all who were blessed to know him.
