Daniel J Sullivan died at age 86, two days shy of his 87 birthday on 2/22/22. Dan was born and raised in Englewood Colorado, where he attended catholic schools throughout his life: All Saints Elementary, St. Francis High School and Regis College. He received a bachelor’s degree in Math, and spent his career working as an Aerospace Test Engineer. In his 35+ year career he worked at Convair and Lockheed Martin, and made significant contributions to historic technical advancements including Skylab (the precursor to the International Space Station) and the Titan Missile program (which ultimately launched space vehicles into orbit.) Dan also played an important role in educating Engineers about the Comet Kohoutek.
Dan was a man of faith, and an active contributor to the Catholic community. He was a parishioner at Notre Dame Catholic church in Denver Colorado for over 56 years He served as a favorite lector, was a Euchrestic minister and helped with numerous administrative support services for the church. At Notre Dame school he was the Carnival Coordinator for multiple years. Dan was a leader in the Knights of Columbus council #3340. During his time with the council he served as President, led the scholarship committee, served as Treasurer, Bingo Coordinator, ARC coffeehouse leader, Boyscout Leader, plywood derby track builder and creator of multiple floats for the St Patrick's Day Parade. For all his efforts and contributions, the Sullivan family was honored with the “Family of the Year” award from the Knights of Columbus.
Family meant everything to Dan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his children Dan Jr, Tim, Peggy, Colleen, Kate and Karrie; his grandchildren Kyle, Danielle, Alex, Marena, Cooper and Hudson, and his great grandchildren Sullivan, Glaleanna, and Ainsely. He is also a beloved Uncle, Cousin, Father in-law, Father figure and friend to many more.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held in his honor at 7pm, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home . Funeral Mass will be on Friday, Feb 25, 2022 at 11:00am at Notre Dame Catholic Church . Our family would be grateful for you to attend either or both of these services to honor this great man. Daniel was a great example of Catholic Education dedicated to service and faith. In lieu of flowers we are asking for donations in his name to support others to receive a Catholic education.
