Daniel Allen Swenson, 72, of Crookston, MN, passed away on Thursday December 18, 2025 after a battle with AML at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Danny was born on May 5, 1953 in Crookston, MN to Donald Swenson and Theresa Perreault Swenson. He attended Crookston Central High School and graduated with the class of 1971. After high school, Danny attended Thief River Falls AVTI where he studied electronics and graduated in 1973. That same year, on August 31, 1973, Danny married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lerum, at St Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston. Danny and Bonnie would share 52 wonderful years of marriage building a loving, supportive life together. From this union, they would welcome two sons, Josh and Michael .
Danny started his career in the family welding business, working for Gust Swenson and Sons until 1992. Soon after, he began working for the City of Crookston. Danny enjoyed the work so much that he stayed for 23 years until his retirement! Although he had many major health issues throughout his life, Danny was very active. He was a member and past president of the Eagles Aerie 873 as well as a member of the Crookston Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was a loving father and papa to his grandson, Graham. Being a loving father and grandfather was Danny's favorite job in the world. Danny loved hunting and fishing. For more than 40 years, Danny hosted opening fishing with his friends and family. He often cooked for more than 30 people over the open fire.
He spent lots of time at the family cabin and enjoyed sitting around the campfire with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends on Wednesday nights.
Danny was a defender of those in need. He stuck up for people who were bullied and befriended the underdogs. He will be well remembered for his kind heart and his devotion. Danny was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston.
Danny is preceded in death by his son, Michael Swenson; father, Donald Swenson; mother, Theresa Swenson; brother-in-law, Rodney Meyer; nephew, Matthew Meyer; brother-in-law, Greg "Fuji" Lerum.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Swenson; son, Josh (Jill) Swenson of Gonvick, MN; grandson, Graham Swenson; sister, Jeanne Meyer of Hillsboro, ND; brother, Duane (Vickie) Swenson of Maple Plain, MN and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Danny's family will receive friends on Friday December 26, 2025, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday December 27, 2025 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception beginning at 11:00 am with lunch following.
In lieu of flowers, Danny's family has requested donations be made in his honor to HIA Hospice, Gift of Life Transplant House, or the charity of your choice.
