It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Robert Thurlwell. Daniel, 86, passed away on December 07, 2024 in Barrington, IL with his loving family by his side. Daniel was born on June 15, 1938 in Woodstock, IL to parents Robert and Margaret Thurlwell.
A dedicated member of the local community, he was passionate about his work in the trucking industry, where he made a lasting impact from over his 14 years on the job. After that, dedicating over 40 years to Thelen Sand and Gravel as a heavy equipment operator. He was deeply proud of his lifelong membership with Local 150 Midwest Operating Engineers. Daniel spent a lot of time at Buddyz Pizza, where he loved hanging out with the guys, sharing stories, and enjoying a cold beer together. He was a fun dad! He worked extra jobs so we could have a 5th Wheel trailer to travel the US in. His daughters friends still talk about the times they came camping with the family. We also had fun with snowmobiles and motorcycles. Daniel had a great love for horses. He owned 4 horses and 1 miniature horse over the course of his life. He had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. It's hard to capture 86 years of life into a simple paragraph, but those were some of the things he was most proud of and loved very much. He will be so missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Sean and all the guys at Buddyz for always looking out for Daniel; your camaraderie meant the world to him.
Daniel is survived by his children: Tammy Gitzke, Debra (Linda) Florek, Bonnie (Russell) Oziminski, Vickie Thurlwell, and Wendy (David) Michels; his grandchildren: Nicole (Dan) Runions and Daniel (Kelley) Oziminski; his great-grandchildren: Addisyn Runions, Zachary Runions, Lucy Oziminski, Emmerson Oziminski, and Quinn Oziminski; his siblings: Peggy (late John) Lawrence, Irene (Jack) Miller, Rita (Jim) Thennes, and Donald (Laura) Thurlwell; his brother-in-law: Melvin Freund; and many: nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Margaret Thurlwell; his sister: Shirley Freund; and his nephews: Jim Miller and Brian Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Animal House Shelter, 13005 Ernesti Rd, Huntley, IL 60142.
