Daniel Thomas Torowski, aged 73, passed away on July 2nd, 2025. Dan was a man who cared little for worldly goods; what was most valuable to him, he carried in his heart, followed by a buck knife in his pocket. He was completely of the earth to which he has returned. Whether foraging for morels, ambling along deer paths scouting for antler sheds, or kicking up arrowheads in a fresh till (always with a pocket full of pistachios), Dan invariably imparted a lesson, teaching you to slow down, observe, and revel in the birdsong around you.
Dan was a skilled carpenter and craftsman by trade, though there was little in this physical world he couldn’t master. He had a natural, humble strength, fine dexterity, and keen ingenuity, a Swiss Army Knife of a man. He took great care of his few belongings, ensuring every tool, every flannel, and every 1971 Chevy lived a full life.
When Dan left us to learn the great cosmic secret, he brought with him love for his wife, Debbie Torowski; daughters, Nina (Adrian) Farray and Tessa (Marjorie) Torowski; grandchildren, Elijah, Sephora, Meadow, and Honor Farray; sisters, Georgeann (Tom) Benedict and Jackie (Tom) Savoca; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his beloved mother Wardie and father Jack Torowski. Memorials in Dan’s name can be made to his following favorites: Project Learn of Summit County or 91.3 The Summit FM.
Remember him as the kind neighbor who called you up to look for rainbows, eclipses, full moons, and other wonders of the skies. Remember him as the grandpa who searched for the perfect kazoo for his grandkids. Remember him as the powerful and compact captain of the South High football team. Remember him as the would-be disc jockey who’d implore you to tune into “Cruisin’ the Decades” on 91.3. Remember him as the quiet observer, always poised to deploy a perfectly timed punchline (sometimes at your expense). Remember him as the dad who loved unconditionally. Remember his as a gentleman. Remember him, remember him.
