Daniel Tullio Obituary

Published by Douglass & Zook Funeral and Cremation Services on Dec. 2, 2017.
For 95½ years, Dan graced this earth with joy and love, departing peacefully on December 2, 2017. A loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dan was a star performer every step of the way. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Daniel was born to Emma and Nick Tullio on June 2, 1922, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Maple Heights with his sister Gerry and brothers John and Nick. He met his beloved wife Florence at a sweet-sixteen party, and they quickly became sweethearts. Dan served in the Coast Guard during World War II, stationed on Long Island, NY. Dan and Flo married in 1944; their three children, Laraine, Dale (both born in the East) and Tim (born in California) became the focus of Dan's life along with the love of his life, Flossie. Dan moved his family to La Canada, California in 1952 with no job prospects, a few bucks in his pocket, and an indomitable will to succeed. Dan sold Bell Brand Potato Chips, drove a Helms truck, and had a very successful sales career at General Foods in the Maxwell House Division (Maxwell House, Sanka and Yuban). One of the great loves of Dan's life was golf. He was an excellent golfer, successfully played in many tournaments, and shot his age numerous times before glaucoma took his sight. Dan and his family spent many happy years in La Canada, where he spread his legendary charm throughout the neighborhood and made many lifelong friends. Dan and Flo eventually moved to Port Hueneme and then Oxnard, and finally to Carlsbad. Dan will live forever in the hearts and minds of all the people he loved and all the folks who loved him. Daniel is survived by his wife of 73 years, Florence, and his children Laraine (Santiago), Dale (Jo Ellen) and Tim (Diana), four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Douglass & Zook Mortuary in Monrovia on January 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM.

I was looking for a current address to send this year's Christmas card and saw that he passed away about this time last year. They were my neighbors in Carlsbad for 2 short years, but I so loved having them nearby - stand ins for my parents that were over a 1000 miles away. What lovely people - and I'm sure Dan is cracking the jokes for everyone in Heaven!

Dan and I became quick friends while working in our retirements at Encinitas Ranch golf course. We shared many sfternoons playing golf. We also shared many memories of LaCanada the golf courses in the area. Dan was an excellent golfer although he would not brag on his accomplishments I know they were many.
Dan was a family man, the devotion he showed to Flo was unfailing and his sons and daughter were his everlasting joy.
For a long time my wife and were part 4 couples group who enjoyed many dining out dates.
He will be missed.

Hi dad, there are no words to explain how much I miss you. I find my peace in knowing you marched right through those pearly gates with a smile on your face and your golf clubs over your left shoulder. Your in my heart forever. Thanks for just being you. Dale

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Daniel. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure in your heart and it lives forever. May the wonderful treasures fill your hearts with love and bring you peace, Hosea 13:14. May the God of comfort continue to be with the family during this difficult time.

Mr. and Mrs. Tulio were our neighbors on Journey's End, La Canada. It seemed to me that Mom and Dad were happiest when the good natured Tulio's came to visit! Mr T and dad would laugh and look at Dad's projects, including a mini MRoller Coaster, which all the adults tried; a small Merry Go Round that Danny Boy tried, and we all laughed hysterically, and a Donkey named Lucky who provided us with fun. experiments, and the riot of our Dads trying to ride the poor thing. But she never got big ennough for Dad and Mr. T to ride, and probably was the best alarm cock on the block...like a chug boat Braying at 6 am every day.
When we moved the Tulios remained good friends, Timmy and Frankie still played together, Dale was always up to something very inspiring, and Lorraine, the actress performed at Pasadena Playhouse, giving us cultural adventure to see as many performances as possible.
Mr. T was a legend in coffee, and whenever a coffee commercial came on our cry was, Mr. T sells that. We thought his picture was on the Coffee cans, I still think it was.
Mr. T and Mr. T came to my wedding, shortly after my Dad passed away. I could still feel the sense of loss we had, and how seeing Mr. T made me feel like Dad was there in spirit. Mrs. T looked as beautiful as ever, with the most perfect skin in the world, and exuded love for Mom and all of Mom's children.
Although I haven't seen the Tulios in a while, I will always have love for them and how they became a good part of my family memories.
Good By, my friend, Danny Boy

Mr Tullio, and Mrs Tullio, were the best. They welcomed this long haired kid into their home many times, and they made me feel like I was part of the family. Tim, my best buddy, and I had a great time during our school days, and Flo was always feeding me, and Dan was always happy to tell me his sales stories and Maxwell House Coffee sales.

I love the family, and Dan will always have a place in my heart, as a second father to me. Flo, love you too! What great people.

Love Peter, Tammi & Jessica,
My God Bless both Dan RIP, he is now playing golf with the Lord.
