Daniel Brian Ulman, affectionately known as Danny to all who loved him, passed away tragically on January 16, 2026, in Key Largo, Florida, as the result of an automobile accident. He was 42 years old.

Danny was born on August 14, 1983, in Michigan City, Indiana. From the very beginning, he possessed a curious mind, a determined spirit, and a heart fiercely loyal to those he cared about.

A 2002 graduate of New Prairie High School, Danny continued his education at Ivy Tech Community College before answering the call to serve his country. In 2006, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably until 2014 as a Culinary Specialist. While he enjoyed cooking, his true passion was technology—a passion that followed him throughout his life.

During his naval service, Danny was stationed in Hawaii as a submariner aboard the USS Bremerton, where he earned his coveted Dolphin pin, a distinction that speaks to his dedication, discipline, and perseverance. He later served aboard the USS John C. Stennis Aircraft Carrier, where his technical ingenuity left a lasting legacy. There, he not only managed food inventory but also designed an inventory tracking system that remains in use today—an enduring testament to his intellect and problem-solving ability.

After his military service, Danny continued to thrive in the IT field, working remotely for Online Statements in South Bend, Indiana. In August of 2022, he made his home in Key Largo, Florida, where he delighted in the warm weather and coastal life. Above all, Danny was proudly, unapologetically himself—a “super geeky computer guy” with a brilliant mind and a sharp sense of humor.

Danny found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich. He absolutely loved Christmas—the music, the decorations, the gatherings, and the sense of togetherness it brought. He was known for his love of extremely spicy food, famously making chili so hot that only he could eat it. A local legend at Wings Etc., Danny conquered “The Wall” sauce and earned a place on the restaurant’s Wall of Fame in LaPorte—an achievement he wore with quiet pride.

Those who knew Danny will remember him as honest, strong-willed, and deeply loyal—a man who stood by his principles and the people he loved without hesitation.

Danny is survived by his loving parents, David and Kathleen Ulman of Rolling Prairie; his cherished daughter, Becca Ulman of Omak, Washington, who was the light of his life; his sister, Tamara Ulman of Burlington, Vermont; his former wife and mother of his daughter, Calli Chase of Omak, Washington; his grandparents, Roger and Fay Koenemann of Decatur, Indiana; his uncle, Jeffery Koenemann (Cristine) of Silver Lake, Indiana; aunts Cynthia Gallmeyer of Decatur, Indiana, Rita Rorick (Paul) of Northville, Michigan, and Brenda Bunton (Mark) of West Lafayette, Indiana; along with many cousins and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Virginia Ulman, and his aunt, Jeanene Price (Jerry).

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. CST (6:00 to 9:00 p.m. EST) at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 3, at 11:00 a.m. CST (12:00 p.m. EST) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 907 Michigan Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana officiated by Rev. Richard Ungrodt. There will be 1 hour of visiting before the service. A private burial with military honors will be rendered at Rolling Prairie Cemetery, honoring Danny’s dedicated service to his country.

Memorial contributions in Danny’s memory may be made to an American Legion Post of donor’s choice or another organization of donor’s choice.

Danny Ulman lived with purpose, passion, and quiet brilliance. His legacy lives on in the systems he built, the service he gave, the love he shared, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
