Daniel S. Van Riper of
Fort Myers, FL and Montville, NJ died peacefully at home on November 13, 2025, with his wife of 65 years by his side. He was born July 1, 1940 in Hackensack, NJ and raised in Fair Lawn by his late parents, Raymond and Mae Lucinda Semen Van Riper.
Dan earned a BS degree with high honors and an MBA from Rutgers University. He married his high school sweetheart, Katharine, and was a loving husband and a very proud and devoted father and grandfather. He became a CPA and enjoyed a 36-year career, 26-years as a partner, with KPMG, retiring in 1998. Dan served as SVP and CFO of Sealed Air Corporation from 1998 to 2002 and continued as Special Advisor until 2005. His extensive leadership experience in public accounting and finance led to his election as a director of six public companies between 2001 and 2017.
Dan enjoyed the outdoors and especially the natural environment of North Captiva Island where his family cherished their Island home for many years. Dan was an avid golfer and was a member of Morris County Golf Club for over 30 years. He served as a trustee or officer of numerous charitable and professional organizations including the Morris Museum, the Morris County Unit of the
American Cancer Society, and the Holland Society of New York.
Dan had a unique ability to find genuine connection with everyone with whom he crossed paths. He was a source of comfort, laughter and unconditional love. Dan's presence will be forever missed, but his spirt will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Kay, and their three children: Daniel F. (wife Jeanne), Craig (partner Sandy) and Linda Mae Coppa (husband Louis); five grandchildren: Daniel C. Van Riper (partner Ashley), Rachel Peterson (husband Jim), and Kate (fiancé Harrison Piper), Emily, and Louis Coppa; and two great grandchildren, Joseph and James Peterson. He is predeceased by his three brothers: Raymond, Andrew, and George Van Riper.
Dan will be laid to rest in NJ at The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains with his parents and brothers. Memorial donations may be made to the Montville Reformed Church in Montville, NJ or the Thomas A Edison Congregational Church in
Fort Myers, FL, where Dan was an active and faithful member.
