Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benson Funeral Home - Dallas on Jun. 10, 2025.
Daniel Lee "Danny" Warr, 75, traded his earthly sorrow for the joy of Heaven on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. His parents, Sara Nelle (Vaughn) Warr and Dr. C. Michael Warr, his wife Sara Mae (Fosbenner) Warr, his first grandson Joshua Daniel Root, and daughter-in-law, Amanda Lynn (Garnett) Root were no doubt standing beside Jesus ready to greet him in celebration and sweet reunion.
Danny was born May 8, 1950, in Washington, D.C., where his father pastored Luther Rice Baptist church. Later, they moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina, where his father pastored First Baptist of Rock Hill. It was there Danny was raised and at a young age, accepted Jesus into his heart and was baptized. He graduated high school in Rock Hill and later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended Mercer University Atlanta and studied music and musical theater. His mother had a strong musical influence on Danny, teaching him piano when he was young. He learned to play guitar and drums as a young man and loved to sing. He played and sang in bands for a while before becoming a minister of music in church. He served in this capacity at Bethany Baptist Church near Stone Mountain, Georgia, Sugar Hill Baptist Church in Buford, Georgia, Corinth Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, but it was his ministry at First Baptist Church of Boulougne in Boulougne, Florida, that seemed to have the biggest impact on his life and countless others. He and his family served at FBC Boulougne from 1988 until 2006.
Danny loved musical theater and spent many summers traveling with his wife, Sara, to New York City to watch plays on Broadway. In his early years as a minister of music, Danny led choirs in big Easter musicals that would impact the community. Prior to his last place of ministry, he and his family attended Valley Hill Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia, where he played the part of Jesus in an Easter play. When he later served at FBC Boulougne, he encouraged people who had no idea they could sing to discover their talents and use them in church. Many became singers in the community and some beyond. The choir at this tiny church in this tiny town grew in their confidence under his direction and in 1991, Danny decided to have the choir and other church members put on the play that had made such a difference in his life. The one-night play turned into two nights, then three then it became, The Lamb
The following year, Danny's excitement over the response of both church and community had grown, and his God-given gifts rose to the occasion. His years of attending Broadway plays had his wheels turning and, with small resources and a small sanctuary, he elevated an Easter play to a nearly full-time ministry on its own called The Lamb.
The play grew from a cantata in a book, to a full-blown theatrical event that drew thousands each year, with new music and new scenes added yearly. One weekend turned into 15 years of many weekends during the Spring with people coming by the busloads from all around the area and eventually from other states. The play was invited to Alma and Brunswick, Georgia, and by some miracle, was invited to Istanbul, Turkey, to perform. He was advised by the Turkish government that they had never allowed Christian evangelism, but God graced them two weeks to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ something that had not happened in that capacity there since the persecution of the Early Church nearly two thousand years earlier. Ultimately, for Danny and those involved over the fifteen years, the greatest blessing and miracle were the lives changed and souls won to Christ. Danny's legacy was far reaching and will live on through the lives of his family and the countless numbers of lives changed by his service to the Lord.
Danny is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Warr) Root of Jacksonville, his son-in-law, James "Punch" Root of Savannah, his daughter Dorothy (Warr) Pavlovsky and her husband, Chris of
Dallas, Georgia, his son, C.J. Allen and wife Lucia of Jacksonville, Florida; his grandchildren, Rachel (Root) Garcia and her husband Luis Chong-Garcia, Mollie Root and her fiance Zion Strickland, David Lee Root and his fiance Riley Williams - Leila, Ella, and Linley Pavlovsky - and Lucas and Lulu Allen; his two great-grandsons, Joshua and Mateo Garcia; his Tennessee cousins Sara Kay (Danny) Gentry, Amy Evans, and their families.
A memorial service is planned to celebrate the legacy of Danny Warr at First Baptist Church of Boulougne at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
