Daniel Werner

We celebrate the life of Daniel Anthony Werner who passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the age of 67. He was the beloved son of the late Kenneth Werner and Anne (nee, Kane) Griegel. Dear brother of Gary Werner, Donna (Roy) Patrylak, Robert Werner, Anne Cecille (Judy Jones) Werner, Lynda (Vincent) Kamper and the late Kenneth Werner and the late Karen Werner. Loving uncle to Carissa, Marissa, Joe, Brittany, Matei and Michael.

Ever since Dan was a child, his life was consumed with his love of sports. He turned that passion for sports into a lifetime career of mentoring inner city children in Chicago. Early on, he spent three seasons serving as a manager with the Town of Lake Baseball League in Brighton Park, working alongside his father, the coach. He had a long affiliation with the Louis L. Valentine Boys and Girls Club Chicago in Bridgeport where he attended during his childhood and then worked there as a young adult. Dan devoted over two decades as the Athletic Director at the True Value Boys and Girls Club (Aka: General Robert E. Wood Club) serving the Little Village Community. He also facilitated a Midnight basketball clinic at the McCormick Boys and Girls Club in Uptown, bringing together players ages 18 and older for organized community play. Dan taught by example. He was a beloved, committed and inspiring role model, instilling in his young players the value of teamwork, dedication, integrity and compassion.

Upon retiring from athletics, Dan proudly worked for many years with Admiral Security Services in Chicago.

Dan's wit, charm, lovable sense of humor and heart of gold will be greatly missed.

His legacy of love, service and kindness will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Daniel's life will be on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 2 PM to 6 PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem) with a Time of Words of Remembrance at 4:30 PM..
