Daniel West Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midwest Cremation & Funeral Services, LLC - Springfield on Jan. 6, 2026.
Daniel West, born February 26, 1951, passed away at home on January 2, 2026. Dan lived a life full of color, laughter, and deep devotion to those he loved. His warmth, dry humor, and quick wit made him unforgettable to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan was born in Evansville, Indiana to Roy and Ida West, and graduated high school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Dan then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Dan married Kristie Basham in 1980, together raising a son. He married again to Lynn Ballard in 2004

Dan spent many years working in healthcare, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and lifelong friends. He retired from the Department of Health and Senior Services. Outside of work, he embraced the simple joys that brought him peace and happiness- camping, canoeing, traveling and listening to music. Dan cherished every moment of adventure and held tightly to the beauty of experiencing life with someone he loved. Above all, his family meant everything to him. He loved being a father to his son, a loving and supportive friend to his stepchildren, and devoted grandfather to his step grandchildren, loving them fiercely and wholeheartedly. His presence was a constant source of comfort, fun, and strength to his wife and ever-growing family.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Roy, brother Larry, and his infant daughter.

He is survived by his wife Lynn, his mother Ida, son, Jason West of NYC, step children Amanda Page of Springfield, Amber (Derek) Jones of Springfield, and Jacob (Tia) Ballard of Springfield, his grandchildren Hayden Phillips, Braden Ballard, Lucas Ballard, Olivia Page, Hannah Ballard, Madison Jones, and many cherished family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Dan's life was a testament to love, the appreciation of nature, and the power of finding joy in both the everyday and the extraordinary. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
