Daniel Roy Winters passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was 57 years old. Memorial services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at First United Methodist Church, Brookings. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Rude s Funeral Home, Brookings. Rude s Funeral Home will livestream the funeral service on Rude s Funeral Home Facebook page.
He was born in Mason City, Iowa on April 12, 1965, to father Ronald Richard Winters, and mother Patricia Ann (Compton) Winters. He was the oldest of their two sons. The family moved to Watertown, South Dakota in 1981 where Dan graduated from the Watertown High School. Following high school, Dan served honorably in the South Dakota Army National Guard.
Dan married his first wife Nancy Cobb in Watertown, and together they raised three sons Tony, Gavin, and Nathan. The family moved to Brookings, South Dakota in 1997, where they soon opened Winters Family Cafe in White, South Dakota. This experience fulfilled Dan s dream and passion of connecting with people through the foodservice industry.
Later in life, Dan met and married Beth Buskrud in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He had the great honor of becoming the step-father to Beth s five children; Oliva, Lanton, Stryker, Journey, and Rhye.
Dan is well known for his quick smile, sense of humor, kind soul, eternal optimism, love of family, and his gift for gab. He was devoted to his fantasy football, Minnesota Vikings, and everything Iowa. We will forever remember him as the best teller of papa jokes, and the loudest parent at every wrestling tournament.
Dan is preceded in death by his mother Patricia Winters, and his grandson Kai Sails. He is survived by his father Ron Winters; brother Rick (Joann) Winters; his wife Beth Winters; children Tony (Joelle), Gavin, and Nate Winters, Olivia (Justin) Bechmann, Lanton, Stryker, Journey, and Rhye Clemons; grandchildren Morgan, Cash, Niyellie, Juliette, Addison, Athena, Lauren, and Camden.
