RICHWOOD – Daniel E. Wisma of Richwood, formerly of Urbana, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 13, 2023, following a year-long battle with two types of cancer. Dan was 65 years old. He was born in Urbana on Feb. 16, 1958, to Richard E. and Sara J. (Roe) Wisma, and was the youngest of their 3 children.
Dan was valedictorian of his Urbana High School 1976 graduating class. He completed one year at Clark State in computer programming. Dan worked at the Dairy Queen in his teens to early 20s. He worked at Grimes Manufacturing for 7 years, and at Honda Marysville Auto Plant for 16 years. Then he found his passion, which was landscaping. He achieved becoming an Ohio Certified Nursery Technician in Landscape. He was happy getting dirty among the flowers, shrubs, and mulch.
In 1981, he married Melinda "Mindy" Pullins (now Adkins), and they were blessed with 2 sons, Andrew S. "Andy" Wisma and Kevin M. Wisma. At Honda, Dan met his second wife Julie M. (Welsh) Schmidt. They had been married for 24 years, having wed in 1998.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Richard Wisma and his brother Gary Wisma.
He is survived by his wife Julie Wisma, Richwood; beloved sons Andy and Kevin Wisma, both of Urbana; 3 grandchildren Preston, Lily, and Peyton Wisma, Urbana, who made him so proud and were the apples of his eyes; mother Sara "Sally" Wisma, Urbana; sister Kathy (Steve) Watson, Upper Arlington; mother-in-law Janis Welsh, Richwood (now Marion); and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank ViaQuest Hospice for their support and care; doctors in particular Dr. Louis Chorich and Dr. Timothy Voorhees for their compassionate care; everyone at The James who assisted, treated, and cared for Dan throughout this journey; and Memorial Damascus Family Medicine's doctors and staff through the years.
According to Dan's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no service. Private interment of his ashes will take place in Urbana at a later date.
