Danilo Domingo, MD, 93, of Bettendorf, IA, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Harmony Utica Ridge Nursing Home. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Danilo was born March 3, 1932, in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines to Vicente and Matilde (Venzon) Domingo. He was the eldest of seven siblings.
Danilo graduated from medical school at the University of the Philippines in 1956, then came to the United States in 1957, beginning his medical career as a surgical intern at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then briefly served as a general surgery resident at Galesburg State Research Hospital and ran a surgical practice in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
However, Danilo later shared with his family that he did not enjoy the "blood and guts" of surgery, prompting a career shift to psychiatry. He returned to the United States and completed his psychiatric residency at both Galesburg State Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Most recently, he worked as an inpatient psychiatrist at the Robert Young Center and ran a private psychiatric practice in
Moline, Illinois, before retiring in 2004.
He was a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Rock Island Medical Society, the American Medical Association and Diplomate for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
He was married to Alga (Garret) Domingo, a surgical nurse whom he met during his residency. They were married in 1961, and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2015.
Danilo is best remembered by his generosity toward his family, especially his dedication to helping his siblings immigrate from the Philippines to the United States and supporting them as they established new lives.
His humor was often subtle and laced with a touch of sarcasm. He remained active throughout his later years, enjoying golf and regularly driving balls at the range. He stayed informed by watching CNN, maintained a consistent exercise routine that included mall walking and visiting the YMCA.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Maryann Nash of Maryville, TN, and granddaughter, Alexandra Nash of Daytona Beach, FL; Edwin (Michelle) Domingo and grandchildren, Jason and Rachel Scianna of Boerne, TX; stepsons, Larry (Monica) York, Frank (Nancy) York, and Allen (Connie) York and numerous step-grandchildren; sisters, Arceli (Rodolfo) Agbayani and Ofelia Bello; brother, Zoilo (Carmelita) Domingo; sisters-in-law, Perlita Domingo and Zeny Domingo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Leticia Domingo, Romulo Domingo, and Cleto Domingo, and by his brother-in-law, Dr. George Bello.
