Danny Reece Barnett, 70, of Bakersville passed away at The VA Medical Center in Asheville on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He was born on March 07, 1954 in Mitchell County to Calvin Barnett and Rittie Peterson Barnett who preceded him in death. His siblings, Cratus Barnett, Arnold Barnett, David Barnett, Maxine Garland and Charlotte Maxwell also preceded him in death.
Danny was a proud US Army Veteran who served in Vietnam. After his service in the Army, he served as a Drill Sergeant in the reserves. He spent much of his time outdoors riding motorcycles and golfing. He supported and loved watching Mitchell Mountaineers Football. Danny was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by three children, Kasey Burleson (Michael), Tyra Frye and Brayden Barnett; siblings, Gaylon Barnett (Norma Jean), Michael Barnett (Melinda) Jack Barnett (Barbara), Jerry Barnett (Sharon), Edna Garland (Joe), Carolyn Oakes (Ken) and Carrie Pritchard; and two grandchildren Israel Burleson and Isaiah Burleson.
A memorial service to honor Danny will be held on November 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Brummett's Creek Church of the Brethren in Green Mountain. Rev. Jerry Barnett will officiate the service.
