Danny Elrod Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Danny "Dan" Elrod, 66 passed away on March 28, 2026 at Methodist Germantown.

Dan spent over 20 years working at Cole's CARQUEST Auto Parts and Servicenter in Munford, where he took pride in his work and, more importantly, the friendships he built. His favorite part of the job was working alongside Dewayne and Aaron. He was known for arriving early each morning, ready to share a cup of coffee and conversation with Dewayne before the day began. He also worked part-time at Walmart for five years, always staying busy and connected to those around him.

Outside of work, Dan loved being outdoors whether he was fishing or doing yardwork, he found peace and satisfaction in staying active. He never met a stranger and loved to talk. In fact, his family often laughed about how he could carry on a conversation for hours, sometimes without even knowing exactly what he was talking about, but that was just part of his charm.

Family was at the heart of everything Dan did. He cherished family gatherings and the time spent surrounded by the people he loved. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Bentley play baseball and was incredibly proud of him. It weighed heavily on his heart when illness kept him from being able to watch Easton play. Dan also had his traditions, he always insisted that if Sharon was attending a gathering, she had to bring her famous peanut butter cake.

In his younger years, Dan attended Charleston Pentecostal Church, which was an important part of his early life. In 1997, he married Sheila, and together they shared 29 years of love and memories.

Dan is preceded in death by his biological parents, Harland and Margie Elrod, as well as H.B. and Virginia Gray, who loved him as their own son.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Elrod, his kids; Brandon Groves (Shannon Bryson), Michael Groves, and Nikki Crawford (Shannon), and grandkids; Bentley Ennis, Easton Crawford, and Jack Groves.

Though Dan may be remembered for his gruffness and his complaints, those who truly knew him will remember something far greater a man who worked hard and loved his family fiercely.

A memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be hosted by the family on Saturday, April 4th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1351 John Hill Road, Brighton, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited. The family kindly requests that any food for the gathering be delivered to the service address.

Dan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
