Danny Gene Jenkins, 75, of Washington, IL, passed away Monday, January 30, 2023, at 7:30 am at his residence. Danny was born October 16, 1947, in Broseley, MO, to Hubert and Lucille (Clark) Jenkins. Danny married Christine Vaughn of Washington, Il, on September 11, 1966.
Surviving are his wife, along with their daughters, Amy (Steve) Kemper and Holly Hurst (Jess Evans). Three grandchildren, Dannyel (Damian) Carroll, Bryanna Simonton, and Skyler (Michelle) Hurst; and six great-grandchildren, Jack Burnett, Oliver Simonton, Riley Burnett, Colt Carroll, Elliott Henson Lily Carroll, and Zac Evans. He is also survived by Bruce (Pam) Jenkins, Ida Miller, Clara (Norm) Hendrickson, Carol (Tom) Kimbrow, and Deb Jenkins; sister-in-law Dorothy Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Jenkins.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War 1967-1969, where he was severely injured, but he did not let that define him. Danny worked at Johnson's Hydraulics for 35 ½ years until its closing in 2001. He then enjoyed metal and woodworking in his garage. He worked on many vehicles and lawnmowers. He was the neighborhood go-to. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, watching Gunsmoke, and baseball. He truly enjoyed every one of his grandbabies and thought the sun rose and set on his loving wife, Christine.
A funeral service will be at 12 noon on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Mason White Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Gretta Nash from Summit Nazarene Church will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made in Danny's memory to Summit Nazarene Church.
