Darius R. Asay, age 38, of Roosevelt, was killed in a one car rollover, along with his beloved dog, “Crash,” on August 2, 2023.
He was born October 28, 1984, in Provo, to Kenneth W. and Nila Rae Chapman Asay. Sadly, five months after he was born his parents were killed in a small airplane crash. He and his siblings were taken in and raised by his grandparents, Nile & Ranae Chapman. He graduated from Union High School and went on to receive his bachelors degree from Stevens Henager College in Hospital Administration.
Darius worked for various manufacturing companies as supply buyer. He was an excellent cook which made him a bit of a “food snob,” and never went anywhere unless he was dressed his best – the first thing he asked when invited to go somewhere was, “What’s the dress code?” He was down for whatever and never wanted to be left out. His dark sense of humor and extremely quick wit was mostly used to make people laugh, but sometimes to cut people to the core. However, he was quick to apologize.
Darius grew up skateboarding, and, because he spent every waking moment on the board, he achieved competition level – along with many broken out front teeth and broken bones. He often quoted movie lines and had a passion for plants and gardening. He spent much of his time in the outdoors and hiking.
His family and friends were everything to him, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he truly enjoyed spoiling. He was inseparable from his dog, “Crash.” who saved Darius’s life many times. His genuine care for people, his temper, appetite, and stubbornness will be greatly missed.
Darius is survived by his siblings, Paige (Kalani) Galbraith, Spanish Fork; Stephanie (Kolt) Boren, Roosevelt; Jonathan (Marcela) Asay, Roosevelt; grandfather, Nile Chapman, Roosevelt; nieces and nephews, Nila, Kamryn, Chantz, Kayla, Rendan, Michael, and Clarisa.
He was accompanied in death by his dog, “Crash,” and preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Nila Rae; and his grandmother, Ranae.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary. There will be a visitation at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday prior to the services from 10-10:45 a.m.
Following the services, he will be cremated.
