Darlene Brown, 88, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Baptist Floyd Hospital with her husband by her side. She was the former Darlene Lee, born in New Albany to the late Herbert and Nancy (Wright) Lee, and she was a homemaker. Before marrying, Darlene was employed by Rookie’s Bakery and White House Department Store in New Albany. She was a proud graduate of New Albany High School Class of 1954 and was a fierce Bulldogs and IU Hoosiers fan her whole life. Darlene was a member of Cherry Street Church of Christ in New Albany and formerly attended Ralph Avenue Church of Christ in Louisville and was a long-time Sunday School teacher.
In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her daughter, Peggy Grover; her sisters, Lola Pendleton, Bonnie Kaiser, Virginia Helm, Geneva Maulden, Doris Hawkins, Norma Crane and Nancy Creamer; and brother, Donald Lee.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Allen Brown; her son, Tony Brown; her son-in-law Bill Grover Jr.; her brother Ronald (Tonna) Lee; her sister-in-law, Wyetta Lee; her grandchildren, Bill Grover III (Amy) and Alison Koopman (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Jonah Koopman, Declan Koopman, and Victoria Grover. Darlene is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved and adored, and her wonderful Oxford Drive neighbors whom she also counted as family.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN) followed with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Floyds Knobs. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Newcomer before the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be given in Darlene’s memory to Cherry Street Church of Christ.
