Darlene J. Dieger

Darlene J. (Thompson) Dieger, 91, of Belmond, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday.

Darlene was born on October 14, 1933, in Goldfield to Glen and Hazel (Thomason) Thompson. In 1943, her family moved to Belmond, where she grew up and graduated from Belmond High School in 1951.

On September 30, 1956, Darlene was united in marriage to Paul Dieger. They shared 33 years together until Paul's passing on October 31, 1989. Together, they raised their family in Belmond, where Darlene was a devoted wife and mother.

Darlene worked as the secretary at the Belmond Schools, and later at Tip Top Grocery. In 1982, she began working at P&G Grocery, until the store closed in 2013.

Darlene is survived by her children Susan (Rick) Hammen, Laurie Abbas, and Darrell Dieger; grandchildren Kelly (Adam) Foertsch, Katie (Brent) Rink, and Kayla Abbas; great-grandchildren Tate and Emily Foertsch, Shyann, Abby, and Zoey Rink, Barrett and Emery Abbas; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Dieger; her parents Glen and Hazel Thompson; in-laws Henry and Tillie Dieger; and brothers Duane and Donald; and extended family members.
