Darlene Faye Head was born September 17, 1931 to Henry and Agnes (Beintema) Marinus in Runnells, Iowa. She passed away on July 16, 2024 in Altoona, Iowa. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1949 where she played basketball.
Darlene married Edward (Pete) C. Hardenbrook and to this union a daughter (Pamela Kay) was born. They lived in Altoona most of their married life. Pete passed away in 1988.
Darlene married Glenn D. Head on April 23, 1990. Glenn passed away in 2008.
She was the receptionist for National Travelers Life for 40 years where she developed many wonderful friends, a few she still kept in touch with. She was an accomplished seamstress, made many intricate macrame hangings, and enjoyed decorating, planting flowers and mowing.
She is survived by her daughter Pam (John) Crawford, grandson Nick (Kellie) Crawford, great grandson John Judge Crawford and sister Iola VanderWilt. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Gladys Weaver and brother, Wayne Marinus.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM with a service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 27 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines. Private interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Rescue Rehab Rehome, Urbandale, Iowa.
