Darlene King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Funeral Service and Chapel, Inc. - Champaign on Feb. 4, 2026.
Darlene L. King was born on September 10, 1935, in Decatur, Illinois, to Arthur Day and Bertha (Bates) Washington.

At the age of 90, she departed this life on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She attended Stephen Decatur High School, Darlene devoted her professional life to working as a bookkeeper at a bank, where she was respected for her diligence, integrity, and quiet dependability. Beyond her work, she found joy in the simple pleasures of shopping and taking walks, but nothing defined her more than her affection for people-especially her famous hugs, which were her way of offering comfort, warmth, and unconditional love.

Darlene was a devoted mother, sister, and friend whose nurturing spirit and gentle strength left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She is lovingly survived by her children, Deborah Blue-Arterbury (Stan), Carla King, Dawn Couthen (John), Gary King (Jayna), and Dylan King; her brothers, Arthur Day (Danya), Richard Day (Odessa), and Stevie Day (Heidi); her sisters, Patsy Day Johnson, Sharon Day, Deni Carruth, Tami Day, and Marcia Day; and 15 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and her special loved ones, Mary Miller, Lena Tate, and Burl Stoner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Day Sr. and Bertha Bates Washington, and her beloved son, Kevin King.
