Paula Clark Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Funeral Service and Chapel, Inc. - Champaign on Feb. 20, 2026.
Paula Carmen Brassfield Clark, lovingly known as "Bebe" and "PAULA P STARR," passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026 at her home. Born on October 4, 1955, in Decatur, Illinois, Paula was the cherished daughter of James Pete Brassfield and Gertrude Carmen (Mason) Brassfield, both of whom preceded her in death.

Paula was a proud graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and continued her education through Richland Community College. She dedicated much of her life to serving others and uplifting her community. She worked faithfully with the Grandparents Program through Youth With A Positive Direction and also served as the program's cook. She was especially known and loved by the children for her delicious shepherd's pie and for always giving out candy, small gestures that showed her loving and generous heart. In addition, Paula founded and ran a program called "Open Door," reflecting her desire to create welcoming spaces for those in need.

Paula also worked in skilled care facilities, including Oak Manor and Lincoln Manor, serving as a medical assistant. Her compassionate spirit and gentle presence brought comfort to residents and their families. Service was something she learned early in life, as she proudly worked alongside her mother as a Girl Scout, mentoring and guiding young girls with patience, wisdom, and encouragement.

Paula's faith was central to her life and began at an early age as a member of St. Peter's A.M.E. Church. She later joined CWFF and eventually Main Street Church, where her devotion and service touched countless lives. Her service to Main Street Church was especially dear to her heart. She worked diligently in the janitorial department and faithfully served on the Pastor's Aide, ensuring that her Pastor and First Lady Margaret had all their essential needs every Sunday. Paula was well known for walking throughout the church capturing special moments-taking photos of new members, dancers, and memorable events. She also worked alongside the church secretary to create Sunday bulletins and prepare Sunday school lessons. Her church family meant the world to her, and she found great joy in attending services, fellowshipping, and growing in her faith.

Paula had a vibrant personality that could light up any room. She loved expressing herself and proudly wore her tattoos as a reflection of her bold and unique spirit. She enjoyed watching cartoons, cheering on her favorite football teams, shopping, and spending time with friends. She was especially known for her incredible baking-her homemade rolls, cookies, desserts, and sweet treats were made with love and shared generously with family and friends.

Above all, Paula was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who deeply cherished her family. She leaves to treasure her memory her daughter, Carmen Ranae Brassfield Dixon; her bonus son, Deondre Halliburton; her beloved grandchildren, Carmen "Rese" Hannah (Melvin) and Kevin Lynn Jr. "K2"; her great-grandchildren, Journee Lynn, Amarii Hannah, Kali Lynn, and Amara Hannah; Terry Lowery Sr. and the Lowery Family; special friends, Lonell Johnson, Patty Hayes, Eva Savage, Edith Bond, and Brenda Harvey; her special cousin, Margaret Jones (Gary); and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Terry Lowery "TJ"; her brothers, Ramond Hopkins and Bobby Brassfield; her sister, Carol Miller; brother-in-law Curtis Bell; and special friends, Wanda Barbee-Taylor.
