Darlene Schell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors on Jun. 13, 2023.
Schell, Darlene Faye of Eustis, Florida, peacefully passed away due to complications of Parkinson's Disease on June 5, 2023. She was the daughter of Orty and Olga Narveson, born March 6, 1941. Darlene was 2nd generation American as her grandfather migrated from Stony Lake, Norway.
Darlene was born in New Rockford, North Dakota and was raised in Oberon, North Dakota. Her sister and best friend Janice Hager (Narveson) had a big hand in Darlene meeting Gerald, who's nickname is Whitey. They packed up and moved to Kalispell, Montana in 1966 where they raised their 3 sons while working 30 years for Northwestern Telephone Systems. Her coworkers nicknamed her "Starlene" because of her sparkling personality and her contagious huge smile. After her retirement, Darlene and Jerry packed up in a 5th wheel, traveling and visiting family in many states for 2 years until they bought a house and settled down, making Eustis, Florida their new home.
Darlene married her forever sweetheart Gerald K. Schell at the young age of 17, she passed away one day shy of their 65th anniversary. Together they raised 3 sons, Richard Lee, Gerald Allen (Melanie Baker), and Randall Kenneth (Wendy). She also loved and adored her 8 grandchildren; Ashly, Ricky, Jeremy, Emma, Lila, Shayne, and Alex; 4 sweet great grandbabies, Makayla, Trenton, Lillian, and Colette. She was loved by all her family as she was the Gentle Matriarch.
Darlene was a beautiful woman, with spunk in her step and sass in her words, but always a lady. She enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing along with her all-male family, but enjoyed the line dancing and fast cars in her spare time. She volunteered at a food bank kitchen in Eustis, where she was loved and appreciated.
Darlene loved lighthouses and had a beautiful lighted collection displayed in her kitchen. She loved wearing "Bling" and dressing up for special occasions. She always kept herself looking beautiful and put together. We loved when she used funny slang words from her Norwegian heritage, like Uff- Dah and Gaaah. She also loved hearing a good joke now and then. She loved to read poetry, and would clip and save some of her favorites, or tape them up inside the cupboards. Darlene was a huge Vikings fan, she loved wearing purple and cheering on her team. If you made fun of her Vikings, she'd raise a fist and say, "Don't you talk about my boys!".
One major accomplishment she made, which made her family very proud, was she bagged a moose, which had the largest antlers out of all the moose her family had ever gotten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 17, 2023, at 1 pm at the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel.
