She was born on May 17, 1951 to Paul E. and Lillian (North) Roof in Indiana, PA.
Darlene was an active member of the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church where she was employed as the parish secretary since 1991. She began playing the organ at Harmony Grove Lutheran Church at the age of 14. Darlene enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Brian (Leah) Shields of Creekside and Kevin (Mariha) Shields of Penn Run; daughters, Melissa (Billy) Davis of Creekside and Jessica Shields of Indiana; grandchildren, Cullan (Addyson), Zander (Brooke), Tyler, Hailey, Samantha, Kylee, Colton, Kaiden, Parker, Jaxon, Makenzey, Karson, Victoria, and Liliana; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Mason, Ryder, and Shiloh; sister, Catherine Smith of New Wilmington; and brother, Paul "Earl" (Linda) Roof of Creekside; sister-in-law, Grace Shields; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald E. Shields; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Margaret Shields; and sister, Mary Jane Dunlop.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc, 724 W. Main Street, Rural Valley, PA.
An additional hour of visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church. A funeral service will immediately follow with Rev. Dr. Paul Morris, officiating.
Private interment will take place in the Harmony Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church, 6584 Five Points Road, Creekside, PA, 15732.
