Lucy Kate Shields

Mrs. Lucy Kate Shields, 87 of Warm Springs, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025 at West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange. Funeral services will be 2:00pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025 in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester with Father Robert Wills officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Ms. Shields' grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shields was born June 13, 1938 in LaGrange, the daughter of Plea Lovet Jones, Sr. and Effie Lee Roberson Jones. She had worked at Callaway Mills in both Manchester and LaGrange. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Woodbury and in recent years attended St. Luke Episcopal Church, Manchester.

Mrs. Shields was the widow of William George Shields and was also preceded in death by her parents, four sons, Earnest Alfred Garrett, Edward Lee Garrett, Joseph Leroy Garrett, III and Danny Ray Garrett; four sisters and one brother.

Mrs. Shields' abundant family is her enduring legacy. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Ann Goodwin of Warm Springs, her son, Clifford Dean Garrett and his wife, Carlotta of Woodbury; 17 grandchildren, Christopher Garrett, Alfredd Garrett, II, Tabatha Curl, Joseph Garrett, Joseph Topper, Kara Ward, Kate Epperson, Charles Goodwin,, Jr., Helen McClure, Billie Jo Collins, Danny Garrett, Jr., Danielle Garrett, David Garrett, Shawna Daniels, Glen Anderson, Jesse Garrett and Patricia Gilbert; 39 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
