Darlene was born on August 18, 1948, in Pierre to Eltor and Vernia (Garber) Mattheis. She grew up in Pierre and went to Pierre schools, graduating in 1967. She married Steve Ulvestad.
Darlene worked for the State of South Dakota in the Department of Transportation for many years, she worked on roads and surfacing, road reports, and drove state truck.
Darlene enjoyed working with her dad on the farm, walking, biking, fishing, camping, and she liked to bake.
Darlene is survived by her children Bobbie Gregg, Jeffrey (Janelle) Gregg, and Teresa Burke, her grandchildren: Dakota, Lorna, Cody, Ryan, Tate, Courtney, Sean and Craig, one great grandchild Chase Burke, her sisters Carolyn Trautman and Sherry (Daryl) Theobald, and Steve's children Reed (Yvon) Ulvestad and Amy Gabriel, and his five grandchildren Ronin, Kaed, William, Robbie and Hailey.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Steve, and sisters Marilyn Hagemann and Phyllis Fratzke, brothers-in-law: Maruice Trautman,Melvin Fratzke, Bob Hagemann.
