D'Arline Dunn Whitten, age 88, died peacefully on March 22, 2024 at Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center in Frederick where she has resided this past year with close friends at her side. She was the last of her immediate family predeceased by her husband William J. and son William R.
D'Arline was born in
Corpus Christi, Texas. She met and married William Whitten from
Mineola, Texas and as she always told it, then began her life adventure. Dee was proud of her Texas roots but enjoyed telling of her global travels with Bill, a Civil Affairs Officer, of their life overseas in England, Belgium, Germany and South Korea for several years. Upon returning to the states, they made Maryland their permanent home. She often spoke of the contrast of the four seasons and of course the natural beauty of the state. She studied and enjoyed painting the scenery around Maryland. Dee's other interests included studying History and familiarizing herself with the culture and customs of the places they lived and traveled. She had a special interest in Genealogy and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with anyone who showed an interest and their name. Dee and Bill owned and operated Whitten Tax Services in Frederick until Bill's death in 2019. A quiet, reserved and intelligent woman, Dee will be missed by her friends at Citizens who marveled at her knowledge of little known facts in the "Trivia" game challenges. She certainly enjoyed their admiration and attention and often responded with a witty remark.
A private graveside service was held at Resthaven Memorial Garden on April 1. Her advocate and close friends Kathleen & Frank Harrell would like to thank the staff of the third floor at Citizens for their encouragement, excellent care and comfort to Dee this past year. A special thanks to Dr. S. Kazmi for his communication and care as well. The excellent care provided by Visiting Angels of Frederick, most notably Milena Grau, who provided not only encouragement and care but friendship to Dee these past 2 years is also given recognition. Frederick Health Hospice is also remembered and thanked for their transitional and supportive care to Dee most recently. Dee may be gone but certainly not forgotten.
