Darrel Dean Howell, 70, passed away in the home that he loved near Jerusalem on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was born August 3, 1953, on the family farm near Beallsville, a son of the late John and Bertha Hoskinson Howell.
Darrel was a retired employee of the former Ohio Valley Coal Company #6 mine near Beallsville and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, however spending time with family was his favorite pastime. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 33 years, Deborah "Deb" Hopkins Howell; a son, David (Alice) Howell of Columbus; a daughter, Danielle Haney of Beallsville; his grandchildren, the lights of his life, grandson, Tré Haney of Barnesville, granddaughter, Winnie Haney (Kevin Nalley) of Lewisville and two great-granddaughters, Paisley and Novah; two brothers, Lester (Bernice) Howell of Jerusalem and Larry (Diane) Howell of Clarington; also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John and Bertha, Darrel was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Miller; two brothers, Fred Howell and Jim Howell; a niece, Brenda Nickels; two sisters-in-law, Patty Howell and Carol Howell; also an infant great-grandchild.
Honoring Darrel's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service; cremation will take place. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a time of the family's choosing.
