Darrel John "Jim" Kyger, age 82, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, surrounded by his family and all the things he loved. He was born on November 25, 1941 at the Windsor Hospital. Jim led an extraordinary life marked by his dedication to his country, community, family, and faith. His love for Windsor made him a native as he never left the Town he so dearly cherished.

Jim's early years were spent in Timnath, where he attended both primary and high school, laying the groundwork for his unsurpassed work ethic. He enlisted in the United States Army as an E-5 Combat Engineer, serving from 1963 to 1966. His military tenure included valuable time in Germany and Thailand, earning him the National Defense Service Medal for his contributions during this period.

After his honorable discharge, Jim returned to Windsor and worked on his family farm alongside his father, John Kyger, who preceded him in death, as did his mother, Viola Kyger, and his uncle, Sonny Jekel, and longtime friend and brother-in-law, Ed Fagler. His professional career spanned several roles, including an over the road cattle hauler for Ed Duggan, Inc, ten years head of the Parks and Rec department for Town of Windsor, before finally retiring from Hach in 2004. Notably, Jim dedicated 25 years as a volunteer fireman at the Windsor/Severance Fire Department, a testament to his commitment to service.

Jim was a devout member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor, where he also found a community of faith and fellowship. His personal life was enriched by hobbies such as camping, fishing, and traveling with his beloved wife, Sharon. Winters were spent together as "Winter Texans," showing his love for adventure and warmer climate, because he always said "I hate the cold". A true "Jack of all trades," Jim could often be found in his shop at home, where he enjoyed tinkering with projects ranging from woodwork to building and repairs.

Jim's legacy of love and laughter is carried on by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Kristi Marriott (Jim), Deanna Kyger, and Jodi Mares; step-daughters, Brandi Bitner (Dave), and Shawna Kaiser; sister, Bev Fagler, cousins, Newel and Toots; nephews, Jeff Fagler (Tammy) and their children Wyatt, Jake, Aubrie, Lillie, and Rob Fagler (Shauna) and their children Tayla and Divya; and his cherished grandchildren, Zach Mainwaring, Rhianna Marriott, Madeline Marriott, Alysa Manicone, Ashley Garcia, Sarah Mares, Courtney Johnson and Aunt Marie.

A memorial service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Friday, August 9, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Windsor Severance Fire Museum or Bethel Lutheran Church. Marks Funeral Home of Windsor, Colorado is assisting the family during this time. Jim's life of service, both in the military and in his community, will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

Jim's final resting place will be scattered amongst the Columbines of Colorado and at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
