Darrel Robert Melvin, born on April 2, 1953, in Cheltenham, England, passed away peacefully at his home in Clarkton, North Carolina, on February 26, 2026. He was a beloved figure, known for his kindness, wit, and unwavering support for those around him.
Darrel was the cherished son of Gladys Clayton Melvin and Colon Franklin Melvin, who preceded him in passing. He is survived by his loving fiancée, Becky Tidwell, who brought joy and companionship to his life. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his children, Colon Melvin and his wife Cassia, and Brandi Venema and her husband Peter. Each of them carries forward his values and spirit. In addition to his children, Darrel is remembered fondly by his sisters, Patricia Melvin Robinson, Pamela Bahm, and Deborah Melvin, who shared many treasured moments and memories with him over the years. His close friend, Greg Priest, was a constant source of support and camaraderie, embedding a sense of brotherhood in their friendship.
Darrel’s impact on the lives he touched will be felt for years to come, as he exemplified what it meant to be a loving family member and friend. His warmth and generosity will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Funeral Service celebrating Darrel's life will be held in the Clarkton Presbyterian Church at a date to be determined.
