Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home on Feb. 6, 2026.
Big Rapids - Darrell Lee Aldrich left this earth peacefully in his sleep on February 6, 2026 at the age of 93 after a short illness. He was born to the late Vern Leroy Aldrich and Clara Lydia (Priest) Aldrich in Ada, Michigan on July 26, 1932, and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1950.

Darrell was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps after serving six years during the Korean War. He retired from Canteen Services in 1997 after 38 years, and then drove for both Marco and Baker Chrysler until he was 92 years old. Darrell was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Am-Vets, and American Legion. Darrell also worked at East Gate Lanes, and was an avid bowler, golfer, and workaholic. He served as the United States Bowling Congress league secretary in the Big Rapids area for decades.

Darrell raced a Hudson Hornet in the 1960's. He bragged that he raced against two- time Indianapolis 500 winner Gordon Johncock and legendary Michigan short-track racer, John Benson Sr.

Darrell and Doris enjoyed and taught line dancing for about eleven years and choreographed Blue Rose together. They also enjoyed karaoke and many, many friends.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 53 years Doris Jean (Vaughn) Aldrich; twelve children, Debra (Mark) Lake, Jennifer Aldrich, Joseph Aldrich, Richard Aldrich, Mary Jo (David) Burd, Pamela (Tim) Bennett, Roger (Michelle) Aldrich, Tim McShane, Jerry (Carri) Aldrich, Chris (Dave) Kandalec, Kathy (Brian) Kenyon, and Michelle (John) Acton; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
