Darrell Astwood

After a hard-fought battle, Darrell Astwood, 56, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 at Staten Island University Hospital. Darrell leaves behind his children Nicholas Ortiz, Diavvia Astwood, and his grandson Nickolai Grant to cherish his memory.
Darrell was born on July 3, 1966 to Richard and Geneva Astwood, who preceded him in death. A native resident of Staten Island, Darrell grew up in Mariner's Harbor with his family and friends. He attended Port Richmond High School. Darrell was a carpenter by trade, in addition to being a skilled painter. His love for people led to his volunteer work as a Cook and Resident Monitor for Project Hospitality. He had an unconditional love for people and was well known for his hard work and compassion for underserved communities. Darrell loved music, cooking, kids, video games, and most importantly, being around his family.
Darrell is survived by; his sisters; Carol Josey (Donald), Gloria Bivins (Emmett), and Beverly Astwood, his brother, Michael Astwood, two aunts, Eloise and Edith, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his sisters Shirley, Barbara, and brother Richard.
Services for Darrell will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10am to 1pm at the Forest North Chapel located at 747 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310.
