Darrell (Nick) Bethards, 67, of Eagle Grove (formerly of Des Moines), passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Townsend Community Center in Altoona, Iowa. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Grand River Cemetery in Grand River, Iowa.
Darrell was born on October 1, 1957, in Leon, Iowa to Ralph and Betty (Foland) Bethards. At a young age, his family relocated to Des Moines. Darrell attended school in Des Moines and graduated from East High School with the class of 1976. Darrell spent most of his years as a Millwright worker.
Darrell was a hard worker. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pool, watching football and NASCAR, and spending time with his dog. He was very proud of his children.
Those left to remember Darrell are his beloved dog Shadow; children Shelli (Clayton) Bice of Runnells, IA, Nick (Lindsay) Bethards of Baxter, IA, Kelly (Emily) Jenkins of Stratford, IA, and Kaeleen (Shane) Stoneburner of Dayton, IA; grandchildren Maci, Jerzi, and Shianne Bice, Gracie (Wade) Zahurones, Kinley (Justin), Hudson, Hank, Addison, and Bella Bethards, Samuel Jenkins, and Ella and Easton Stoneburner; siblings Angela (Bruce) Alwell of Centennial, CO and Dora Bethards of West Des Moines, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
Hendersons Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Darrell and his family.
