Darrell (Butch) Bussino Sr Obituary
Darrell (Butch) Bussino, Sr. of Wickenburg passed away from pancreatic cancer Oct. 15, 2023, at home surrounded by his family at the age of 76. He leaves his beloved wife Alice (Haggett) Bussino; son, Darrell Bussino, Jr. (and wife Amy Wright); daughter Yvonne Bussino; grandchildren Allison and Alexia Martin, Marcus Lillie, Reilly Auger and Ellie Searles, Ben Auger and Allison Gray, and Maya Auger; and sister Maral Fowler (and husband Fred Fowler). He is predeceased by his parents Vernon and Marion Bussino.
Butch grew up in Middlesex, Vermon, where he helped on his family farm. He loved motorcycles and fast cars. He met and married Alice in 1967, and they had two beautiful children. He was accomplished in many areas. He traveled around Vermont doing dynamite blasting and drilling and working at ski mountains. By his mid-20s, Butch was in charge of a crew that blasted the path for sections of I-91. He was a mechanic at the Ford dealership in Barre and worked for himself doing building construction and carpentry. He was always disappointed in the quality of the lumber at the lumber yards so he bought a Lane sawmill in 1977, which led him to own and operate his own lumberyard for 15 years while still taking on a few carpentry jobs now and then.
Butch left many friends and family in Vermont to move to Wickenburg in 1993 because of his Rheumatoid Arthritis. Many of his Vermont friends still come to visit in Arizona, and he enjoyed regular visits back to Vermont to fish and see friends and family.
While in Arizona, he was able to use his hands to work again and once again did carpentry work around Wickenburg and Prescott. He made many friends in Arizona. Though he never struck it rich as a gold prospector, he liked to go into the desert to see what he could find, and often did find small amounts of gold. He was always tinkering and fixing things up, especially after he retired.
Butch was a lifelong, avid hunter and fisherman in both Arizona and Vermont, catching many impressive trophies. In Arizona, Butch started hunting exclusively with his bow because he felt it was more challenging than using a rifle.
Celebrations of life will be announced when organized for Arizona and Vermont.
