Darrell Dean Fletcher passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born on August 2,1939 in Mesa, Arizona to Cecil (Pete) and Vera Fletcher. Darrell grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and two older brothers Don and Jack–developing an appreciation for simple circumstances, hard work, and faith–values that would guide him throughout his life.
Darrell attended Mesa High School. Following graduation, he attended The University of Arizona. Then, he chose to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served in the Mexico City, Mexico Mission. There he learned to love Mexican culture, the Spanish language, and of course Mexican food.
After returning home from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University and received his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from BYU, Darrell returned home to Arizona and attended Arizona State University where he received his Master's in Mechanical Engineering.
While attending ASU, Darrell began work as a mechanical engineer–developing turbine engines for AiResearch Mfg. Co, which later became Signal AiResearch, Garrett, AlliedSignal, and eventually Honeywell. While he was working for AiResearch Mfg, he met Connie Sue Orr and they were married and sealed in the Provo, Utah Temple on December 21, 1974. They lived in Tempe, Arizona and it was there that they welcomed their first daughter Jaime in the spring of 1976. Their daughter Tracy soon followed in 1978.
Soon after Tracy was born, they moved to Mesa, Arizona and lived at their beloved home on Williams Street for the next 44 years. There they welcomed son Jeffry in 1979 and daughter Kellie in 1981.
While his work accomplishments were many, Darrell found his greatest joy in time spent with family, working on projects around the house, taking care of his aging parents, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many pursuits.
After retirement, Darrell and Connie were able to serve a church mission in the Salt Lake City, Utah Family History Center Archives Zone. Additionally, they served a church service mission at home. Darrell and Connie were blessed to have celebrated nearly 51 years of marriage together.
Darrell led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends, and many activities such as traveling, camping, fishing, family history work, computer programming, singing in choirs, and serving in many capacities at church.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, tireless work ethic, love of scouting, service to all around him, and his devotion to God.
He is survived by his dear wife Connie, children Jaime (Greg) Zobell, Tracy (Andy) Kleiner, Jeff Fletcher, Kellie (Adam) Wright, and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers.
Funeral services are Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1455 N. Harris Dr., Mesa, AZ 85203. Interment will follow at the Mesa City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to The Alzheimer's Association are suggested.
