Darrell was born and lived his entire life until 2021 on the outskirts of Gratiot, Ohio. Born the son of Vernon and Ethel (Loughman) Iden on December 31, 1927, he proudly attended and graduated from Hopewell High School. He dedicated his entire life to farming the family farms in Muskingum and Licking Counties, as well as driving bus for West Muskingum Schools for eleven years.

During their marriage, they worked together and were devoted to the Gratiot Church and the National Trail Farm Bureau Advisory Council. In his younger days, Darrell was active in various agricultural organizations in Muskingum County.
In his later years, Darrell was faithful to watch his grandchildren in their sporting events, especially basketball because it was his favorite. He loved the time they spent with him as they were growing up, and as they came back to visit him when they became adults.

His grandchildren include Ashlee and Bryan McAfee, Janel and Mitch Blankespoor, Jay and Tomra Iden, and Jacie and Mark Simon, and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brylee McAfee, Jesalyn and Tyus Blankespoor, and Addison Iden.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Bernedetta Moore, Ella Jean Carpenter, and Donald Iden.
