Mr. Darrell Eugene McKinney, age 62, of Elon, took his reserved flight to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 24, 2022 and is celebrating with his heavenly Father, his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, and his family and friends who have gone before him.
A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late John Wesley “J.W.” McKinney and the late Neoma Wilson McKinney and was married for over 41 years to Mrs. Martha Mitchell McKinney, who survives. He was currently employed with Cobb Sign Company and had worked there for over 35 years.
Because of his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Darrell loved people with a humble spirit that showed brightly for everyone to see, including his family, co-workers, friends, neighbors and even those he came in contact with during his everyday life.
A country boy at heart, Darrell loved farming, riding his tractor, gardening and taking care of his animals. On special occasions, Darrell enjoyed cooking for his family. His grilled cheese sandwiches, potatoes and wienees and his pancakes will surely be missed. Darrell was proud to be a loving husband, dad, father-in-law and grandpa and is looking forward to spoiling “Baby M”.
Mr. McKinney is survived by his wife of the home; his daughter, Tina McKinney Buck and her husband, John; his son, Matthew Darrell McKinney and wife, Carlie; grandchild, “Baby M”; a brother, Ira McKinney and wife, Hope; sisters, Carol Hagood and husband, Clifton and Cathy Taylor and husband, Paul; a sister-in-law, Dot McKinney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two miscarried children; and two brothers, Wesley McKinney and Michael McKinney.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Baynes Baptist Church by Rev. Darrell Massey. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
