Darrell Dee Newton, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on August 5, 1942 in Muskegon County, Michigan to the late Joseph Edward Newton and Mildred BeeBee Lodholtz, and was the husband of 48 years to the late Etta Jeanette Howerton Newton who died in 2011.
Darrell retired from F.W. Machine and Tool. He formerly worked at Piedmont Metals, Walter Kidde and Carolina Consolidated Coin Catering. Darrell enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was involved in benefit rides to help others. He was a US Navy veteran, a rock and gem stone collector, enjoyed mowing his yard, cooking, grilling, shooting guns, going fishing, loved dancing, hanging out with his buddies and shooting pool. Darrell was a giving person who enjoyed life.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Irene Newton Cohen and husband Nathan; his sons, Daniel Joseph Newton and Richard “Rich” David Newton and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Newton, Gabriel Ellis Newton, Chloe Carolyn Newton and Ashley Jewell Petersohn; his brothers, Larry Newton and wife Reggie, Lonnie Newton and wife Alice and Joe Newton; numerous nieces and nephews; his fiancé, Naomi Lewis; canine companion, Nikki; his extended family, Max Harrison, Mark Harrison, Tyler Harrison, Michael Harrison and Lisa Strader; brother-in-law, Edker Howerton; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Fitch and husband Gerald “Doc”, Marcie Howerton, Debbie Black and husband Charles; and too many friends to mention. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers: Dennis Newton, Robert Newton, David Riberty and dear friends, Rudolf “Rudi” Muehl and Aubrey “Pop” Simpson.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 4:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3:45pm Saturday prior to the service and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cone Health Cancer Center at Alamance Regional, 1236 Huffman Mill Road, Suite 120, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the charity of one’s choice. You may send condolences and watch the service at www.lowefuneralhome.com
