Darrell Louis Purvis, born on January 3, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 23, 2025. Known for his outgoing and sociable personality, Darrell lived a life characterized by generosity and a deep commitment to helping others.
Throughout his journey, Darrell developed a variety of interests and hobbies that enriched his life. He was particularly passionate about lifting weights and proudly held the title of Golden Glove Champion, demonstrating his dedication and competitive spirit. Darrell enjoyed watching cowboy and superhero movies, with a special affinity for Superman. Darrell loved music, vintage cars and enjoyed drawing.
Darrell cherished his family deeply, considering them his proudest accomplishments. He found unparalleled joy in his role as a father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
The services to honor Darrell’s memory will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. A visitation will take place on October 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 6:00 PM.
Darrell's spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched during his lifetime. He will be remembered for his kindness, passion for life, strength and unwavering love for his family. He was everyone's Superman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor and Frances Purvis; brothers, Robert and Tommy Purvis; sisters, Ruth Jean Hume Jenny Loyall.
Darrell is survived by his children, Melissa (Al) Terry, Rodney Purvis, Dreki (TaneJa) Grey and Gabrielle Purvis; grandchildren, Kasce, Brook, Nathan, Sophia and Victoria; one great-grandchild; sisters, Marty Clark and Shirley Shouse; numerous nieces, nephews and his fur baby, Zara.
