Bradley S Groehler

I knew Darrell in the 1980s and 90s. We used to hang out and play volleyball together at a recreation center and at his house a few times. I've always known him to be soft-spoken, kind, and concerned that everyone felt included at a party or gathering. Both his words and deeds showed that he genuinely cared about people.
Years ago, Darrell brought our mutual friend, Chad, and me to the Lake Superior area for an afternoon of white-water rafting on what I believe was the Saint Louis River. It was exciting. There were tour guides, but there was still a real potential to get hurt. One person in a rubber raft with his crew did get injured while navigating the rapids and large rocks; he suffered a dislocated shoulder.
The guides instructed him on how to reset his arm back in place. He followed their instructions, then said, "Hey, I've had this happen a couple times. Why didn't anyone ever tell me how to reset my arm myself until now?" Regardless of that incident, it remains a fond memory.
I had not seen Darrell and Denice for many years until they visited me recently. I'm an auto mechanic and was checking Denice's car. Afterward, I gave them a tour of my geodesic dome house. It was a pleasant reunion, seeing them again.
Bradley Groehler.

Our condolences to Denice and family. Darrell was our neighbor for 34 years and would often stop over to play dominoes and talk bikes. We will miss his kind heart. He is at peace.
