Darrell Wayne Wittenbrink, age 67, of Hondo, Texas, passed away on October 11, 2024, in Hondo. Darrell was born in Ridgecrest, California, on April 16, 1957, to Wanda Delora (Fifer) and Donald Wittenbrink.
Darrell Graduated Ridgecrest High School in California in 1974, and enlisted into military bootcamp, serving in the Marine Corps and Naval Reserves of Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, California over a 20 year span – before retiring from the military in 1994. In 2001, Darrell began his career in law enforcement as a commissioned peace officer – serving 18 years with Hondo Police Department, and 5 years with LaCoste Police Department before retiring in 2024. During his tenure in LaCoste, Darrell also worked for Blue Shield Traffic Control out of San Antonio. He proudly served the community as a member of Hondo Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.
Darrell is survived by his wife: Andrea Wittenbrink; daughters: Heather Teer (Brandon), and Meghan Hughes; sister: Donna Fritz (Don); nephews: Robbie and Donnie, Jr. and families; and his lifelong best friend since high school: Roger VanBuren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hondo Church of Christ on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with Military Honors starting at 1:00 p.m.
Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
