Darryl Z. Armstrong Sr., of Hammond, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on Friday, March 21, 1947, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of the late Clifford Armstrong and Louise Jenkins Armstrong.
Darryl proudly served in the United States Navy (1966-1969), where he was stationed in Hawaii and then in Vietnam (1968-1969). Following his military service, Darryl devoted 27 years to the Louisiana State Troopers, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. Darryl enjoyed working with his hands. He liked woodworking and carving, and he often tried new hobbies just for the joy of learning something different. In quieter moments, he enjoyed playing his harmonica. He was a strong-willed man who believed in fairness and doing the right thing. Those who knew him remember his kindness, generosity, and steady presence. Darryl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Darryl is survived by his son, Darryl Z. Armstrong, Jr.; daughter, Alexis Armstrong Fagan (Michael); grandson, Zane Armstrong; step-granddaughter, Rose Fagan; and siblings, Barbara Dephillips Normann, Sharon Armstrong Reed, and Kevin Armstrong (Debra).
In addition to his parents, Darryl was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Linda Giluso Armstrong, and brothers, King DePhillips and Clifford Michael Armstrong.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 11:00 am with Bro. Mike DePhillips officiating.
