Darryl Allen Grant was born June 25, 1947, to the union of Warren Harvey Grant, Sr., and Brookie Marie Reed-Grant. Darryl was the second child of this union. His mom, Brookie later married Martin J. Truso Sr., they had three children: Thomas Eugene Truso, Shiela Michelle Truso and Martin Joseph Truso, Jr. Darryl was raised and grew up in Oakland. Darryl was an excellent student, he enjoyed Drama, Wrestling, Track and ROTC. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School in June 1965. He enlisted in the US Navy, after basic training he was assigned to the USS Brush, a Destroyer ship where he went to Japan, The Philippine’s, and the Viet Nam war. Darryl was relieved of duty due to the death of his oldest brother Warren Harvey Grant Jr. during combat in 1967, Quong Tri Province Viet Nam.

Darryl met and married his first wife, Eless Bernell Osborne, to which they had two children: Kelli Denise Grant (her 2 children Christopher David Remson, Kelia Armor Remson) Deric Warren Grant-Battiste (son Maximos Elliott Farmakidis-Battiste).

Darryl moved to Philadelphia where he married Paula Webster, they had three children: Donald Webster Grant, Darryl Allen Grant Jr. and Mercedes Paula Grant (son Cameron Scott Slade).

Darryl relocated to Las Vegas where he met the love of his life Lorna Salvador Wallace at the Boardwalk Casino, they were married on July 18, 2007. To this union Darryl enjoyed his stepson, Jeffray Wallace. Darryl and Lorna were married for sixteen years until he was stricken with heart failure on January 21st 2023.

Darryl’s mom Brookie and his uncle Bobby were in a singing group when he was a child and this ignited Darryl’s love of singing. Brookie started a singing group with her children Warren (Bunny), Darryl, Thomas (Tommy), and cousins Gwendolyn (Gwen) and Lorre Henderson. Darryl was the lead singer of the group; he wrote his first song “Can’t You See I’m Busy.” Brookie played the piano, violin & cello, read and wrote music, she had all of her children taking lessons in musical instruments, tap dance and singing. They were like Joe Jackson and The Jackson Five prior to the Jackson Five.

Darryl, like his mother, excelled in music, while in junior high he was chosen to sing with “The San Francisco Boys Chorus” an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-award winning choir.

Darryl enjoyed a very extensive musical career: Darryl was lead singer in American R&B/funk band, Fat Larry's Band, appearing on three of their releases.

Grant has also recorded with The Rolling Stones, Eddie Kendricks, Blue Magic, and Major Harris.

He was a member of the vocal group Spectrum whose award-winning show ran for four years in Las Vegas. Spectrum’s credits include European tours, headlining aboard Royal Caribbean, Princess & Norwegian Cruise Line, a Doo-Wop to Soul Review at the Hollywood Palladium, as well as performances with over 40 symphony orchestras throughout North America. Spectrum was voted Best of Las Vegas in 2005 and 2006 and got the Las Vegas Living Legends Award in 2009.

In 1983, Ted Lange, of The Love Boat, who was a childhood friend inspired Darryl to pursue an acting career. He had speaking parts on Days of Our Lives and The Jeffersons, some soap operas, and situation comedies like Zack and the Fat Man, Hill Street Blues and Different World.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father Warren Harvey Grant Sr. and mother Brookie Reed, and brother Warren Grant Jr.
