Sean Michael, his only child, took this picture from the picture on beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. It´s framed in the vanity entry to his bathroom here at home. There was a girl on a bike that had 2 parrots . She would ride to her studio, then return with pictures developed. Darryl wanted to follow her just out of curiosity to see where her studio was so we did. She was quite interesting. Darryl took us all around the island to a different beach each time; the sand was so very different at each beach, from Seaside, Florida sand to larger, very course sand that wiped off very easily At Beach where the Annual Pipeline Surfing Tournament is held on the Northshore. The coral is very dangerous at this beach where Darryl surfed and I waited on beach with 3 other couples that were our friends. Don Ho´s (famous singer long ago) daughter Lai was w/me & Sean as I nervously watched him surf in. Relief set in immediately. His strong long legs made him an excellent surfer & water skier (like his sister Karen). We laughed that day watching tourists depart from bus, all having cameras around their necks. He made friends so easily and was a pleasure to be with. This side of him very few people were privileged enough to see. He was kind, good natured & generous to a fault like his beautiful Mother Eleanor. He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you were in need. We rented a home connected to Laura, Frank Zappa´s mum n law in Kailua off Likelike Street and a few houses from the Northshore Beach . Across the street was Jennifer w/2 boys, pool, treehouse & small stream that everyday like clockwork the mother duck led her kids swimming down stream. Sean learned to play `POGS´ a game derived from the old milk toppers that sealed milk left at your door step every day. Sean had a large binder of POGS when we left Island; the game was not known on the mainland yet and Jennifer´s boys taught him to play. We bought POGS daily in Kailua. Darryl played golf there & took us to Flea Market every weekend at the what we called the Rustoleum Stadium. We were so very happy all 3 of us! Darryl was an excellent golfer and won tournament after tournament at local Country Club. I believe that that was where he found Joy in life next to being a father. He was so very proud of his only Son, Sean! If you were lucky you would see this sweet side of him! We had so many adventures, living too many places to count due to his Work. He was so very intelligent & learned his craft from the man that invented `Mr. Bubbles, a scientific genius! So was Darryl in his work that brought him to Johannesburg, So Africa where his partner in business (he proudly owned & could talk for hours & hours about the adventures all over the Country)Well Peter lived with a Baroness who was so jealous when she came home one day and the African Grey Parrot was sleeping on Darryl´s arm! He was wonderful with and had a great love of All Animals! I had 2 parakeets when we met; Sam and Play it Again. One unfortunate day 1 passed and before I could get home he had gone out to buy another one so I would not know because he knew how much I loved them. He even talked his way out of a traffic ticket for driving around traffic off feeder road to get home before I did & discover that-1- parakeet was not in cage. He always did amazing things like that. I wanted to share a few memories to let everyone know how kind he was. He was my only husband and only love. Norma Williams Hanks (I am the woman that he married and had this adorably kind, generous, well mannered son with. Darryl Now you are lying in the Arms of the Angels and may you forever be in the Mystic for you and only you know exactly what I mean by those words. May they comfort you for an eternity...

Wife for Life

Darryl, Sean picked out that picture from the place hanging in his vanity area of his bathroom. The girl Road a bike with 2 parrots on board. You were so happy there. We rented from Frank Zappa´s mum n law, Laura & when you joined in on our nightly visits you always came back. Remember Jennifer across street who was married to an Elvis impersonator ? She was so adorable & had 2 boys, trampoline, huge tree house and outdoor patio and every day Sean and I went over to watch the Mother Duck leading the kids, so awesome sauce. Her boys introduced Sean to POGS not known on the mainland. We were 3 houses to beach , it was fabulous. You skied the biggest wave at beach where Annual Pipeline Tournament was held, full of dangerous coral & I sat there with 3 couples watching you like a pro. I was frightened and happy when you made it to shore. And the tour bus of tourists with cameras we all laughed as they departed the bus. It was the time of our life living in Kailua off the Likelike. We visited the blow hole and every beach around the island. Remember the sand was different on each beach. Don Hô´s daughter L´ai and I became good friends, she dated a guy who worked for you. Remember the Holi Dr, Sean bit the nurse, Laura called him that. You had to leave work to meet me at Drs office for him to tell us he needed help just because they stuck an ear thermometer in his ear with an ear infection & he didn´t know what it was, plus she held him down. I I am sure that the ear thermometer hurt him. We get back to our home & Laura said `Oh,don´t you pay any attention to that Holi Dr. We had bloody Mary´s with her some nights and heard stories about the war her husband was in. She said Zappa´s house was scary because of the long dark hallways with doors that didn´t seem to end. It was the time of our life. I met this guy on flight to L.A. and he & dad were the 1st 2 at the plane crash. He had Ronnie Vanzandts Guitar for ten years of trying to return to the band. It was all fun and interesting and every evening we had a blast with company. You made friends So Very easily bc you were such a likable person and friend. You would take the shirt off your back for a stranger. We visited every beach around the island, all with different sand sizes. You were one of the best persons I had ever met. I will always love you and keep you close to my heart knowing the Angels are keeping you safe in their Arms. You would be so very proud of your only son Sean Michael Hanks. You really would without a doubt. He is a wonder in my life. Sean and Jazz Harry Connick miss You Too !
