Darryl G. Hunsaker, 89, of Camp Point, IL, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
Born October 13, 1936, in Quincy, Darryl was a son of Emery and Selma (Sahland) Hunsaker. He married Anne Haistings on December 15, 1956, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg, IL. She survives.
Darryl attended Camp Point schools and joined the U.S. Navy in November 1954, serving until his honorable discharge in 1958. Along with his grandson, Lee Barry, he was honored to be a part of the 2018 Great River Honor Flight. He was a past member of the Camp Point Lions Club, Eagles Club, VFW, and American Legion, and was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.
Over the years, Darryl was employed at the Moorman Research Farm and Chattons, served as Columbus Township Road Commissioner, drove a school bus, and farmed.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Anne, are his children: Mark (Pam) Hunsaker, Mike (Paula) Hunsaker, Julia (Jim) Barry, and Steve Hunsaker; grandchildren: Ryan (Laura) Hunsaker, Heather Hunsaker, Christina (Ryan) Woline, Jonathan (Kimberly Lynn Polley) Hunsaker, Andrew (Cheyenne) Hunsaker, Leena (Tyler) Terwelp, Lee (Cierra) Barry, Megan (Matt) Carey, and Kyle (Molly Ward) Hunsaker; thirteen great-grandchildren, with a fourteenth expected in March 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ramona Hunsaker; and his nephew, Bill Hunsaker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg by Pastor Patricia Reep and IVH Chaplain, Dave Hall. Burial with military honors will follow at Graymount Cemetery in Coatsburg.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Graymount Cemetery, Blessing Hospice, or the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Department.
