Darryl Victor Lenoir went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2025, after a chronic illness. He was born on November 26, 1953, in Freeport, Illinois, the first child of Abraham Lenoir and Shirley Davis. After graduating from Freeport High School, Darryl attended Northern Illinois University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in both Finance and Accounting. While in college, Darryl met and married Wanda Pitts. During their 17-year union, the couple was blessed with two sons, Blake and Kyle. Throughout his career, Darryl held positions in printing, marketing, and sales. Darryl possessed a scholarly knowledge of many subjects, having been an avid reader since childhood. He particularly enjoyed African American history, spy thrillers, current events, and collecting recipes for soul food. Darryl was a lifelong chess player who found pleasure in competing and teaching the game to others. One of his favorite pastimes was relaxing in a big, comfortable chair and quietly listening to classic jazz music. His favorite artists were Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughn. Always a dapper dresser, Darryl's trademark attire was his hats, leather coats, and walking canes. As a Vietnam-era Veteran, Darryl willingly helped other vets with completing paperwork and getting them connected to programs. While serving at Fort Gordon, Georgia, he received medals for National Defense Service, Good Conduct, and Expert Rifle. In recent years, Darryl has become proficient in using social media and posting online information. He became a founding member and senior administrator for the website "Positive Black Stories." It was one way he stayed in touch with family and friends. It also enabled him to share uplifting stories, music, and recipes with people who shared similar interests. Darryl leaves behind family and friends who share memories of his life: Sons Blake and Kyle Lenoir, former wife, Wanda Lenoir, sisters, Cheryl Lenoir, Ava Ivy, Darla Lenoir, Eva Burrows, brothers Terrence Lenoir, Abraham Lenoir Jr., Tim Burrow, Todd McLin, and Marvin McLin. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. f In honoring his request, Darryl's final resting place will be Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, 25 miles Northeast of Chicago, in Lake County, IL. A Memorial Service will be held later. Condolences may be posted online at noblefuneralhome.com.
